Victims of the 2011 post-election crisis in Kaduna State will soon receive assistance from the Federal Government, State Governor, Dr. Mukhtar Ramalan Yero has said.

Speaking at the opening of the 21st Annual Convention of the Women Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN) Friday in Kaduna, the Governor said just like victims of the crisis in other states, those affected in his State will also be assisted to cushion the effect of their loses.

The Governor said President Goodluck Jonathan gave the assurance to the state during his recent visit that the Federal Government is committed to providing fund for the assistance, saying Kaduna and two other States are the only affected states that are yet to receive the post election crisis relief funds from the Federal Government.

Yero also used the occasion to call for the peaceful conduct of the 2015 elections, urging people to reflect on the negative effects of the 2011 post election crisis.

He said it is wrong for people to resort to violence after an election when there are civil means of getting justice.

The Governor therefore called on the WOWICAN as the umbrella body of Christian mothers in the country to lead the way in advocacy for peaceful conduct of the polls.

Gov. Yero said: “As mothers and wives, it is your responsibility to instill sound moral training in children because charity starts at home.”

Yero also called on electorates in Kaduna State to actively participate in the electoral process by coming out to receive their Permanent Voters Cards during the distribution exercise soon to commence in the state.

“Your vote is your power and it is your right to vote leaders of your choice. Anyone that is not registered and issued with the PVC will not be allowed to vote. I therefore call on all eligible voters in the state to come out during the PVC distribution exercise to collect their cards which will enable them to vote,” he said.

The governor also called on the WOWICAN to reach out to similar organisations especially those of Muslim women in order to forge stronger bond of unity in confronting the present challenges in the country.

He commended WOWICAN for holding the annual convention in Kaduna saying it is a demonstration of the commitment of the organisation to peace, unity and progress of Nigeria.

On her part, Chairperson of WOWICAN, Pastor (Mrs.) Mabel Oyin, thanked the governor for supporting the hosting of the event in the state and finding time to personally attend the event, pledging the support of women to his administration’s peace building process which As stated by her has maintained peaceful co-existence in the state.

The event was attended by the wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Amina Sambo, wife of the state Governor, Fatima Ramalan Yero and delegates from state chapters of WOWICAN.
