Stop making inflammatory statements - Ogun Islamic leaders warn - Insecurity
Following the security challenges facing the nation, Islamic clerics in Ogun State have warned Nigerian People against making inflammatory comments.
The clerics, under the aegis of the Ogun State League of Imams and Alfas, said this while felicitating all Muslims on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Adha 1442AH.
According to a statement signed by the Secretary General, Imam Tajudeen Adewunmi, and made available to Press on Tuesday, the group appealed to all Nigerian People to put the national interest and security as a non-negotiable priority.
Adewunmi said, "We plead with all Nigerian People, especially our leaders to watch their remarks and comments on issues at these times. We should all desist from making inflammatory statements that could fan the embers of hatred, discord or bitterness against individual or group within the federation of Nigeria.
"We should all pay proper attention to the growth and development of our children and family. Children become adults with what they have learnt as the instrument of office."
While thanking Allah for the opportunity and the grace to witness another Eid despite the COVID-19 pandemic and other challenges, the Islamic leaders appreciated the Federal Government and the government of Ogun State for the continuous efforts at arresting insecurity in the country.
"We beseech Allah to rid our nation of banditry, insurgence, kidnapping, extra judicial killings and all other social vices. There is no doubt that a lot still needs to be done in that respect. The security agents at all levels are hereby commended in appreciation of their fortitude and bravery in the circumstances on hand across the nation," it was said.
