The House of Representatives has urged the Ministry of Interior and Nigeria Immigration Service to review their agreement with passport producers.

The green chamber asked them to review the existing agreements with the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company Plc and IRIS Smart Technologies Ltd to increase capacity to produce.

Furthermore, the lawmakers give NIS 72 hours to clear existing backlogs of passports.

These resolutions were the outcome of a motion moved by Ugonna Ozurigbo on Thursday at the plenary.

The lawmaker in his motion said lack of ‘booklet’ at passport office is causing untold hardship for Nigerian People.

He added that a process that ought to be seamless is causing strain on people.

“Nigerian People who have applied for International Passports and fulfilled all the requirements are constrained to wait endlessly for their International Passports.”

House Committees on Foreign Affairs and Interior were mandated by the House to ensure compliance with the resolutions.
