Nigerian pop artiste, Sound Sultan, has said the poor quality of music most Nigerian artists produce is usually due to pressure from fans who are not interested in professionalism.

In a chat with newsmen in Lagos on Friday, the musician said the society should benefit immensely from the type of music they hear as music should rather be an important tool for societal growth.

According to him, the quality of work by modern artistes’ ought to attract the right level of patronage from the listeners. He noted that the current trend of music had regrettably become a bad influence on most musicians.

“You see those crap music and all those other things, I don’t know if it’s me that’s buying them or if it’s me that’s telling them to play it.

“There must be somebody telling people that they want to hear that thing. I feel music is a great tool that we should not misuse, if music is misused, it can tell a lot on the generation.

Speaking further, he said, “I want to be able to play my music where my kids are, not tell them to cover their ears.

“When there is clamour, where there is demand for something, then they will keep putting it upfront to their audience.

“They want to satisfy their audience, they don’t want to bore anybody with their airplay. So if there’s stuff like that going on, trust me, it’s a controlled market, somebody is doing something somewhere.

“For me,” he continued, “I don’t really concentrate on pointing fingers, I just try to deafen your ears with my own sense of making music.

“Most musicians usually produce new works without working hard on them to be masterpieces,” the ‘Jagbajantis’ crooner added.
