Tiamiyu Saheed Oluwatosin
The current face-off between the leadership of the Taraba State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the aggrieved members have begun to negatively affect the party.
The unabated cold war, as gathered by Press has continued to escalate as some top elected members of the party have begun to stay away from the governor’s organized activities.
The members who have been having a series of closed-door meetings with members of the opposition said the alleged inability of the governor to reciprocate efforts of those who worked to ensure his victory in the last poll, is discouraging the party faithful from associating with him.
Also citing recent national engagement where only three out of the nineteen state governors’ wives visited the state, some of the aggrieved members of the party who bared their minds to our correspondent, said ” that action alone connotes that our governor is no longer popular. ”
“Could you believe that despite the ongoing killings and destruction of property in the southern part of the state, he has not for once deemed it fit to visit those areas?”
Observing that “the governor was imposed on the people in the last general election “they vowed to work round the clock to prevent any form of imposition come 2023”.
“Though we are already discussing with opposition parties, should we decide to remain in the PDP, then be rest assured that we are going to frustrate any form of imposition of candidates against the will of the people.”
Some of the aggrieved members who are also calling for the cancellation of the wards and local government congresses of the party said the delegates “were all handpicked by the governor and his people.
Also lamenting the way and manner contracts are being awarded without “due process” they alleged that “the contracts and some “of these projects were not awarded through due process ”
