Schools in both primary and secondary levels on Monday resumed across Benue State concerning the spike in COVID-19.
At some schools, it was found that some parents refused their children wearing facemasks.
A nursery teacher with Christ Apostolic Church, CAC, Nursery and Primary school in Makurdi, Benue State who wished not to be named said some parents refused their children using face masks because it would “choke them.”
Speaking with Press, the teacher, in spite of that, pointed out that at the school’s secondary section, students adhered strictly to the COVID-19 protocols.
She said: “Academic session will be operated fully, no shift this term. Students resumed and classes started.
“It was last term that we operated on a shift basis but parents were very angry and started withdrawing their students.
“Parents are angry that using face masks will choke the students because they are still children so we don’t enforce it on them but some are using it.
“The school, in spite of that, provided water, soap and sanitisers for students, teachers, parents and visitors of the school to wash their hands.”
When asked if social distancing was adhered to, the teacher said: “Students who resumed today were not much so it was not strictly adhered to.
“The school authority made it compulsory but parents refused but in our secondary school, all students were forced to adhere to the COVID-19 protocol as they were seen using their face masks.”
