Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has given reasons for the establishment of the Osun Health Insurance Scheme (OHIS).

He said the state-managed health insurance scheme, was primarily created to aid the aged and less privileged to access health care.

Speaking as the guest of the month on a television programme held to Mark the 30th anniversary of the creation of Osun State, Oyetola remarked that the state government has taken the responsibility of paying the OHIS premium of the aged.

The governor while answering questions also said his administration has given all-around attention to the state’s health sector.

He explained that the government decided to progress from the Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) to give people in the grassroots the opportunity to access health care.

“With the primary healthcare sector taken care of and with the refurbishing, equipping and staffing of PHCs across the 332 wards in the state, we were now able to start work on the secondary health facilities.
