As the Oyo State Government seeks solutions to the raging farmer herders crisis, the acting Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Hilary has said more of its agro-rangers would be deployed to the state to offer protection for farmers.
According to Madu, the corps already have agro rangers on ground in the state but with clashes between farmers and herdsmen, the state has requested for more men to be deployed to the state.
The NSCDC acting CG disclosed this while fielding questions from journalists at a press conference in Abuja on Monday.
Madu, who said the agro-rangers would soon be deployed, noted that the crisis between farmers and herders was capable of causing food insecurity in the country, hence the resolve of the Corps to nip it in the bud.
Madu stated: “We have the agro rangers unit in all the states of the federation but the number is what we are talking about. The (state) commandant has just written that we should post more men, so we are going to post more men.
“Oyo is not a small place, so we will post more men of agro rangers there. That matter (farmers/herdsmen clashes) is being resolved by the entire South-West; the stakeholders were called up for a meeting and the matter as far as I’m concerned is being resolved.”
The acting CG, in spite of that, counselled officers and men of the corps proactive in carrying out their mandate of protecting critical national infrastructures, while also disclosing that the NSCDC was involved in the ongoing insurgency operations in the North-East.
