The Ministry of Police Affairs is implementing President Muhammadu Buhari's directives on Nigeria Police reforms.

Permanent Secretary, Temitope Fashedemi gave the assurance today in Abuja at a meeting with the German Mission and Global Security Sector Reform Foundation

The PS, who Mohammed Dingyadi, said resuscitation of the Police Public Complaints Committee (PPCC) was part of reorganization.

Fashedemi explained that the body provides a platform for the aggrieved citizens to report infringements by policemen.

"You cannot be a judge in your own case. This necessitated the PPCC that comprises the civil society, non-government organizations and others to treat complaints against erring police officers”, he said.

The official added that the ongoing recruitment of 10,000 personnel, review of salaries and procurement of equipment were in line with the reforms.

The permanent secretary insists welfare and equipment are critical to police to enable them discharge their duties.

Noting that most of the challenges the police have with the people emanate from the lower cadre, he advocated additional training to enhance efficiency.

Deputy Director, West and Central Africa, German Federal Foreign Office, Alexandre Callegaro led the delegation.

Callegaro said the visit was a follow up to Buhari’s discussion with German Chancellor, Angela Merkel after the EndSARS protest.

The director reiterated that the German government will help Nigeria to modernize its police force to make it better.
