Kaduna South market traders have raised alarm over the seven days ultimatum to vacate their shops.
The traders who saw the quit notice on the wall of their shops early on Thursday, lamented the sudden order, claiming they had stocked up their shops for Christmas sales and had nowhere to do business.
The traders begged the governor to give them more time to look for alternative business places and warehouses to secure their goods.
Chidimma Okereke who said she lost her husband two years ago and has five children to cater claimed she depended on the sale of food items in Kakuri market.
‘God, where do I start from now? I was coming to market this morning thinking of what to sell to feed and pay rent for this December. Only to meet the quit notice.” She explained
Also speaking, a trader in children clothings, Alhaji Shehu Usman explained that he stocked his three shops awaiting Christmas buyers.
“Now, where will I go from here? Kawo market is demolished, Kasuwan Beshi is demolished, the Television market is demolished, now, Kakuri is about to be demolished. Where do I go from here?” He expressed tearfully.
Already, the Kaduna State Property and Urban Development Authority (KASUPDA) has ordered market traders to quit with their belongings within seven working days.
The notice dated 9/12/2020 read ”In line with Urban Renewal Programme by the Kaduna State government to upgrade markets within the state, you are given seven days from the date of receipt of this notice to vacate/remove all your valuables from the site(Kakuri market)
“Failure to comply with the above directive will leave the authority with no option than to remove/demolish the said structure at your expenses As stated by the above-mentioned law”
