Jigawa Government shuts down civil service, public gatherings - COVID-19

The Jigawa State Government, on Tuesday, shut down civil service and all public gatherings for the period of fourteen days to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the state.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Jigawa State Head of the Civil Service, Alhaji Hussaini Ali Kila, obtained by Press.

He directed all civil servants to stay at home for fourteen days effective from Wednesday, March 25, 2020.

Kila said the directive became necessary as precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the novel COVID -19.

The statement, in spite of that, stated that workers providing essential services, workers in the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance, Salary and Pension, State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme, Board of International Revenue, Ministry of Water Resources, Media outfit, Financial Institutions, Security and Emergency Service Sectors as well as Head of parastatals are exempted from the directive.

The statement further advice officers, who will be at work to strongly, follow the measures being put in place by the government to curtail the spread of the pandemic.

State Commissioner of Health Dr. Abba Zakari, explained that the government was taking preventive measures to protect its citizens.

He said the state government will provide three isolation centers at each senatorial zones of the state.

He urged the public to strictly adhere to the measures to protect themselves from the disease.

Press reported that Jigawa State Government has shutdown all secondary, primary schools and tertiary institutions across the state as part of precautionary measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
