Hundreds of Ijaw Youths under the aegis of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Central Zone, Thursday afternoon stormed and shut down filling stations in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital over their non-compliance with the Federal Government with the new pump price of N125 per litre.

Press gathered that the youth group shut down about seven filling stations and certified four others for compliance.

The angry youths who were led by the IYC Central zone Chairman, Comrade Kennedy Olorogun, explained that their action was informed by the docile attitude of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and other agencies of the Federal Government to ensure compliance with the directive of government to all filing stations to revert from N145 to N125 per lite.

Comrade Olorogun expressed his displeasure over the intentional avoidance of the fuel price reduction in Bayelsa State, adding that other states in the federation have adhered to the N125 per litre reduction, while in Bayelsa, some filling stations are still selling at the rate of N145.

He equally frowned at the nonchalant attitude of DPR and other Petroleum regulatory authorities for not swinging into action to stop this bothersome, declaring that the zonal leadership of Ijaw youths will keep on monitoring the filling stations that are yet to comply with the fuel price reduction.

Some of the filling stations that have complied with the federal government directive include Total filling station, Unless God Oil, Sobaz filling station and Tamic Nig. Ltd.
