How we’ll address security challenges in Nigeria - Army chief, Yahaya - Insecurity
Major Gen. Faruk Yahaya, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), says addressing security challenges in Nigeria required joint stakeholders’ efforts.
Yahaya disclosed this when he appeared before the joint House of Representatives Committees on Defence and Army for screening on Tuesday in Abuja.
The COAS said he hopes to bring his thirty-six years of experience in the Army to work with other service chiefs and all stakeholders to tackle security challenges in Nigeria.
“From my experience, this job can’t be done by a single service or entity, the Army itself is a group work, not individual and that’s why we’re arranged in sections, companies, battalions and brigades.
“Captured in the vision of the last COAS and in my vision too is the mention of a joint environment in what we do, having realised that this job isn’t a one service job.
“It also requires other agencies and stakeholders and as we speak, the Ex-chief has already gathered these as a cornerstone for the achievement of his mandate, you see the composition of the Army, Navy and Air Force including the Police, DSS and Civil Defence and all other stakeholders,” he stated.
Yahaya added that internal security is an intelligence-driven operation that needs traditional rulers, communities, opinion leaders, and all others who can provide information, insisting that the enemy hides within us.
According to him, it is the traditional rulers who should provide information, support and work together with the Army.
