The bad state of the road leading to Gembu, the administrative headquarters of Sardauna local government council in

Mambilla Plateau, Taraba State, has been identified as the major reason for the outrageous hike in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in the area.

Unlike other parts of the state, where a litre of the product is sold at the rate of N185 and N200 in filing stations, the product is being sold between N230 and N250 per litre in Mambilla.

Some petroleum marketers who spoke with Press on the condition of anonymity attached the hike to the bad road leading to the area which has an average elevation of 1,600 metres above sea level, making it the highest Plateau in Nigeria.

They also revealed that the product may sell for above N230 soon, citing the difficulty faced by tanker drivers to navigate the bad roads.

Reeling out the list of tankers that fell down and the numbers of tankers drivers that have died on the road, they said, they will gladly adjust their pump price to the official price, if the the government puts the road in proper shape.
