The Chief Press Secretary to the Osun State Governor, Ismail Omipidan has been charged to outgrow his penchant for “kindergarten combat tactics in trying to project his principal and denigrating whoever appears to him as having a contrary opinion”.

The charge was given by Bamidele Salam, the legislator representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

This was contained in a statement signed by Oladele Olabamiji, his Special Assistant on Strategic Communication and made available to Press.

The media aide highlighted the need to educate the governor’s spokesperson on the basics of legislative intervention of lawmakers.

In his words, “There is a need for Omipidan to outgrow his penchant for kindergarten combat tactics in trying to project his principal and denigrating whoever appears to him as having a contrary opinion in the opposition and even within his own party.”

Press reports that the bone of contention between Omipidan and Salam had been centred around the efforts of the lawmaker to get federal support for the completion of the MKO Abiola Airport in Ido-Osun.

It will be recalled that the House of Representatives, on Wednesday, passed a resolution to call on the Federal Government to complete the airport which had gulped several billions of Naira in the last few years but has turned into a massive forest.

The resolution was passed based on a motion moved by Salam during Plenary.

Salam had met and lobbied his colleagues in the Aviation Committees of the Senate and the Reps, seeking to include the airport in the 2021 federal budget which was in preparation.

He explained that the Committee advised the lawmaker on steps to be taken by the Osun State Government in order to facilitate such as the state had taken over the project during the Olagunsoye Oyinlola administration.

He lamented that after making efforts through several media, which included sending personal messages to the governor’s private lines, discussing with top-ranking members of the administration and Osun senators, all were fruitless as the governor could not act on it within the time frame.

Due to the futility of his efforts, he revealed that the opportunity was lost with the passage of the 2021 budget in December 2020.

He said the state government had also deliberately stalled a proposed massive federal intervention on the Cocoa Processing Industry, Ede and initiatives to get federal intervention for his constituency projects.

While reminding the governor’s spokesperson that it was only the National Assembly that has the power to appropriate funds for the actualisation of projects, Olabamiji added that no amount of discouragement will deter him from discharging the burden he has with the electorate because the burden of governance weighed heavily on all elected persons.

He advised Omipidan to remind the governor that the Cocoa Processing Industry, Ede, had the potential of attracting quick federal funding, adding that Governor Oyetola could take a cue from what his colleagues have been able to achieve through collaboration across the political spectrum.

Recall that the Osun governor’s spokesperson had on different fora stated that Bamidele Salam was lying against his principal.

Omipidan had also accused the legislator of deliberately smearing the name of the Governor just to score cheap political points.

He had also alleged that despite the fact that Salam whom he had never met initially contacted him, he had on several occasions gotten in touch with him to set up a meeting with Governor Oyetola, but that the lawmaker gave flimsy excuses why he would not meet with the governor.
