A state of confusion is persisting in Ohanaeze Ndigbo owing to the failure of Southeast Governors to broker peace between the two factions.
Press had reported that Southeast Governors made a futile attempt over the weekend to reconcile the warring groups.
A source had hinted that the meeting, which had in attendance Gov. Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and few Igbo leaders, was presided over by the Chairman of the Southeast Governors’ Forum and Ebonyi State Governor, Chief David Umahi.
The source, in spite of that, said Ibeh and his team refused to step down, insisting that they remained the authentic Ohanaeze national executive members.
Ibeh later told this paper that He said, “we were told that the meeting was with the Southeast governors but upon getting there, we saw Chief Iwuanyanwu, Obiozor, Igariwey and a host of other people.
“However, we made it clear to them we emerged through a very credible process and that we were not ready to compromise our mandate.
“We also told them that the meeting needs to be expanded to accommodate other critical stakeholders because it was one-sided.
“So, as it stands, we are unshakeable with the mandate given to us by Ndigbo. I have said it earlier, let Obiozor take the Elders’ Council position we gave to him,” he stated.
It has now emerged that the governors were greatly disappointed over the action of the Ibeh-led group who are said to have refused all overtures.
A source claimed that one of the governors has now suggested the use of the court and the security operatives to nail what they termed “a dissident group.”
“In the coming days, the events will unfold. The next option will be to get a court injunction from one of the States. A governor will be used to get it done through a High Court. They are also considering clamping down on them using security agencies,” the source hinted.
