Some Fulani cattle merchants were reportedly stopped from entering Jebba town, Kwara State border town with Niger State on their way to the South West on Thursday.
The stoppage by a group, As stated by findings by Press, was in compliance with the threat of the national body of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, to stop its members from supplying and selling cattle to the South if the alleged eviction by some governors of the Fulani herdsmen comes into effect.
Press learnt that, in compliance with the threat, truckloads of cattle and ingredients including tomatoes, pepper and onions among others, were prevented from entering Kwara State at the Jebba border with Niger State on Thursday.
Coordinator of Miyetti Allah Association in Kwara, Aliyu Mohammed, confirmed to Press that “The development is true.”
He said” We have a meeting on Sunday in Ilorin where we will decide on the matter as it affects our members.
“The national body of the association has directed the stoppage of the supply of cattle among other items to the South generally and it is going to affect Kwara State as the gateway to the North and South,” he added.
He said “The killings in the South West will not allow us to reach the area, because the killings are too much generally.
“Somebody is not doing anything wrong and our people in the forests are killed for no just cause,” he added.
However, the spokesman of the Kwara State Police Command, Mr Okasanmi Ajayi, said ” I can tell you that such reports did not take place here in Kwara and can’t confirm if it happened in Niger State.”
