The Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Eugene Odoh has expressed concern over the inability of the three tiers of government to tackle unemployment in the country.

Speaking over the weekend in Enugu during the official opening of the Academy of Leadership Enterprise, ALE, Odoh said bad electoral process had also robbed the country the opportunity of having good leaders in government.

He advocated for credible electoral processes in all tiers of government, and called on academics to develop interest in active politics.

He said: “The government hasn’t been able to tackle the twin problems of unemployment and security.

“Our problem is the processes through which we elect our leaders; by the time we close our eyes to internal democracy, free and fair election, what is just is just left is vicious circle.

“We have to take our destiny in our hands, in some areas, charlatans are in charge of affairs, we should integrate intellectuals into government, we must import academics into governance so that those things they teach in classroom, they will translate it in practical terms”.

Earlier, Dr. Sally Adukwu, the facilitator said the establishment of the institution was borne out of the need to carter for the jobless youth in the country, as well as school drop-outs who had lost hope of credible future.
