The Chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Professor Femi Akinwumi has said the state government would continue to give topmost priority to the training and retraining of teachers in public primary schools in the state.

Professor Akinwumi gave the assurance in Ado Ekiti while declaring open a 10-day training programme organized by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in conjunction with SUBEB for 120 teachers newly employed under the Federal Teachers Scheme (FTS) in the state.

He disclosed that the government has since realized the importance of capacity building to the output of teachers in public schools, and Ekiti SUBEB in conjunction with UBEC has trained over 13,800 teachers in the last eight months.

He lauded the administration of Governor Kayode Fayemi for paying over N7.3 billion counterpart fund to UBEC covering the period of 2014-2020 which As stated by him gave the state access to funds for infrastructural development and training programmes under the UBEC/SUBEB partnership.

The SUBEB boss urged participants at the 10-Day training programme to pay attention to the resource persons and utilize the knowledge gained appropriately when they get back to their various schools.

In his goodwill message, the Executive Secretary UBEC, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi who was represented by Damilola Oke commended Ekiti SUBEB for its commitment to teachers' welfare and capacity building.

He urged the Board to sustain the good works which have earned it one of the best in the country and equally strengthen the cordial relationship between the Board and UBEC.

Education service delivery cannot thrive without information management - UBEC The lead facilitator, Professor Babalola Ayodele disclosed that the training is organized to improve the capacity of the teachers handling pre-primary and primary education and boost their effectiveness.

Professor Babalola assured that the facilitators are well prepared to do all that is needed to impart knowledge and information required to the trainees and make them teach better when they return to classes.

The SUBEB Permanent Secretary, Mr. Dare Ajayi who spoke through the Director of Training, Mrs. Temitope Shittu said the participants are lucky to have the calibre of facilitators, urging them to take their job with all seriousness it deserves.

He said their diligence and productivity will showcase them for better opportunities in the future.
