Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Chairman, Dangote Group of Companies, over the weekend presented a cheque of N10 million scholarships to indigent students of Mbayion community in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue state, the host community of the Dangote Cement, Gboko.

The scholarship which is a annual event, is in line with Dangote Group’s acknowledgement of the support and co-operation it receives from its host residents.

Over time the company, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, ensures a cordial relationship with communities where its factories are situated.

Performing the ceremony in Gboko Friday, the Gboko Plant Director, Mr. Jacinto Leyva Miranda, explained that the scheme “is basically designed to foster good working relationship with the host community.” He stressed that the gesture was to enable the students acquire qualitative education.

Miranda said the company has put in place a youth motorcycle scheme for the Ipav, Yandev, Gboko town and Mbayion communities. In addition, it has also arranged a farmers’ fertilizer initiative.

Dangote Group further disclosed that twenty classrooms and examination halls were constructed in schools within the community.

In his remark, Benue Governor Gabriel Suswam said “The Government is extremely proud of the gesture.”

He added that the company has rejuvenated the town, by creating abundant job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths.
