COURT

A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered that a farmer, Terhile Chorum, who allegedly robbed travelers in a bus belonging to Flight Transport Company, be remanded in a correctional facility, pending legal advice.

Magistrate Ajuma Igama, who did not take the plea of the accused person for want of jurisdiction, ordered the police to duplicate the case file and send same to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

Igama adjourned the case until Oct. 17, for further mention,NAN reports.

The Prosecution Counsel, Sgt. Ato Godwin, told the court that the defendant was arrested by a team of the Operation Puff Adder security personnel led by Sgt. Samuel Kwagh while on patrol on Gboko to Aliade road.

Godwin alleged that the defendant was arrested wearing a police uniform to rob travelers.

He alleged that the defendant and others, at large, stole cell phones and N29,000 belonging to passengers in a bus belonging to Flight Transport Company.

The prosecutor said investigation into the matter was still in progress and prayed the court for another date for mention.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 6(b) and 1(1) (2) (a) (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (special provisions) Act 2004.
