Indigenes of Ifon-Orolu are set on a collision course with the Osun State Government over the alleged imposition of Olufon of Ifon-Orolu and the faulty process initiated by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

To this end, indigenes of the town under the aegis of Olufon Consultative Forum have written a letter to the Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, warning that any attempt to adopt the defunct 1979 Chieftaincy declaration as against the 1988 Chieftaincy declaration will lead to a crisis in the community.

In the letter, which was signed by Professor James Oladejo on behalf of 29 other elders and made available by Press, the forum which expressed their displeasure over the letter written by the state government to the Odunolu royal family requesting them to produce the next Olufon described it as imposition of an unqualified monarch on the community without due consideration of the advice of well-meaning voices within the community of Ifon-Osun.

They stated that the government’s letter was contrary to the advice and request put forward to the state government in a recent written submission on the matter by a group of elites from the ancient town of Ifon-Osun.

In the submission, the letter revealed, the forum had requested that the extant provisions of the 1988 declaration be adopted in order to ensure fairness, peace and progress in the ancient town.

While noting that the government has not shown interest in the desire of the people, the forum added that the indigenes of the town are left to believe that the progress and development of Ifon-Osun are not of major concern to the state government.

The forum in condemning the invitation extended the Odunolu royal family to take up the Olufon stool described the action as a recipe for chaos and anarchy in the ancient community.

“Imposing a monarch upon the people against their will also has the corollary effect of stifling cooperation and development in the community,” it said.

The forum asked the state government to reverse and recall its letter of invitation to the Odunolu ruling family threatening that unwanted consequences of the invitation may begin to manifest if the letter is not withdrawn.

“All legal avenues will be pursued to resist any attempted imposition of a monarch upon our people. The state government must not allow our community to descend into anarchy and our people must not be put in a situation that could turn them against one another. The only way to avoid such ugly consequences is to listen to the voice of the people,” it concluded.

The Olufon stool became vacant after the death of Oba Almaroof Adekunle Olumoyero in April 2021.

Recall that the Morounfolu ruling house has through a letter to the state governor, raised an alarm over the matter on Monday, November 22, 2021.

Meanwhile, the attempt to reach Rasak Adeosun, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, was futile as he was not on seat to honour the invitation extended to this reporter, and calls to his telephone line went unanswered.
