The member representing Bauchi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Honourable Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi, has dragged a grassroot football coach, Faisal Hassan Akarami, before a Bauchi Chief Magistrate’s Court for alleged defamation and intimidation.

The federal lawmaker, through his lawyer, M. J. Jaldi, filed the process against Akarami, who is a leader of the Grassroots Football Coaches Association (GRAFCA), pursuant to the provisions of Sections of 391 and 396 of the Penal Code Law.

According to the process filed by the lawmaker, Abdullahi alleged that the respondent had on 16th August, 2021, spoken some words in Hausa language on Bauchi-based Globe FM on a political programme, ‘Ga fili ga Doki’, to defame him with a view to harming his reputation as well as threatening the reputation of his property, a rice mill in Bauchi.

He stated that he acquired the land where the rice mill was sited legally and had all the necessary title documents in his favor, adding that the respondent intended to omit him from developing his property or doing anything lawful on the said land.

However, when the case was called on Tuesday at the Chief Magistrate Court 6, Akarami’s counsel, Sadiq Abubakar, raised a preliminary objection regarding the appropriate process of the case.

Based on this, Chief Magistrate, Amina Garuba, adjourned the case to enable parties to exchange all the necessary court processes.
