Armed bandits, hoodlums overpowering security personnel in Taraba – Residents raise alarm NEWS DEFAULT3

There are indications that security operatives in Taraba State are gradually being overpowered by armed militia who have continued to launch attacks on communities spread across the southern part of the state.

Within the week, Press observed three different attacks carried out successfully in the zone by hoodlums which include suspected arm militias and bandits, resulting in the loss of lives and properties of both civilians and military personnel, although, there was no loss on the hoodlums’ side.

The latest attack which led to the gruesome murder of a farmer as gathered by Press occurred in Kente village of Wukari Local Government Council of the State.

The farmer who was said to be working on his farm alongside his family was confirmed to have been hacked to death by unidentified gunmen.

His family members reportedly escaped death by the whiskers.

Confirming the incident, the council chairman, Dr. Daniel Adi, who had on many occasions called on state and federal authorities to deploy additional security personnel to the zone, said the “attacks were becoming too many.”

Adi reiterated his will to continue collaborating with the few security agencies on the ground while appealing to the people of the zone to remain calm.

Agreeing that the hoodlums are gradually overpowering the security forces, a top security personnel who pleaded anonymity, said the weapons being used by the hoodlums are more sophisticated than the ones operatives use.

“Apart from the security men that have been badly injured by the hoodlums, you can also bear me witness that about three or four security men have been killed this week alone.”

Urging the authorities to cease playing politics with security, he said, “the sounds of the weapons alone is enough for some of us to go into hiding”

“The truth is that both the states and the federal government are not ready to address the security problems of the country.”

Insisting that militiamen are better equipped than the security personnel, he said the situation if not urgently addressed, would compel, “Some of our men to hang their boots by resigning from service.”

Also aligning their weights to that of the security personnel, some of the locals who spoke with Press, confirmed that they have never heard the type of sounds that come from the weapons the militia uses since the inception of insecurity.

Wondering how hoodlums could own such sophisticated weapons when security personnel entrusted to protect the lives and properties of the citizens do not have access to such arms, the resident said it was time for government at all levels to fashion measures of repositioning the security system in the country.
