1. Popular singer and song writer, Lanre Fasasi, popularly known as Sound Sultan died yesterday after battling cancer of the throat. His death was confirmed in a statement issued by a family member, Dr Kayode Fasasi.

2. Armed men suspected to be bandits, on Sunday, abducted the provost of the College of Arts and Animal Science Bakura, Habibu Mainasara, in Zamfara State. The state's Police Public Relations Officer, SP Mohammed Shehu confirmed the incident.

3. The Kaduna State Government, led by Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai has declared Monday, July 12 as a public holiday to honour a Ex-Deputy Governor of the state, Arch Barnabas Bantex, who died on Sunday. This was contained in a statement issued by Muyiwa Adekeye, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication.

4. Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Sunday, said COVID-19 third wave has hit the state. In an address yesterday, he directed that religious, event centres and other enclosed places are to henceforth operate at 50 percent capacity.

5. The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar III, has announced that Sunday, July 11, will be the first day of Dhul-Hijja 1442AH. The directive was contained in a statement by by Professor Sambo Junaidu, Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto.

6. Kingdom, one of the contestants in the Nigerian Idol season 6, was announced winner of the Live TV show yesterday. Following his victory, Kingdom walked away with a cash prize of N30 million, a brand new SUV, 6 track EP recording deal (3 music videos included).

7. Unspecified number of persons have been killed in a communal clash that broke out between Ipav and Yandev communities in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State. The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Anene Sewuese Catherine confirmed the incident.

8. Italy, yesterday, won Euro 2020, following their penalty shoot-out win over England. The game ended 1-1 after 120 minutes. Luke Shaw opened the scoring for England in the second minute before Bonucci leveled from a follow-up shot after a corner kick.

9. A diaspora group, Yoruba One Voice, has urged Yoruba people all over the world not to relent in the irrevocable campaign for self-determination for the people of the region. This was contained in the eight-point communique issued at the end of a webinar conference organised by the group, As stated by a statement on Sunday titled, ‘Yoruba Nation'll forge ahead with self-determination agenda -YOV'.

10. Two nurses kidnapped in Kaduna State have regained freedom after 80 days in bandits' den. The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Kaduna State Chapter, Chairman, Comrade Ishaku Yakubu confirmed the release.
