1. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says it has detected a confirmed case of the SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant in the country. The agency in a statement on Thursday night said the variant also known as lineage B.1.617.2 was detected in a traveller who came to Nigeria.

2. There was confusion in Sabon Tasha, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Thursday as residents staged a protest hours after bandits abducted nine people in the community. The protesters hit the streets after the bandits called to demand N20 million ransom for each of the nine people kidnapped.

3. President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, expressed sadness over the brutal killing of some citizens, including a vigilante leader and head of Dabna, a village in Dugwaba, Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State. In a statement issued Thursday by his media aide, Garba Shehu, the president directed security officials to redouble their efforts and respond to these security threats promptly and decisively.

4. President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Professor Attahiru Jega, Ex-Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as Chairman, Governing Council of the University of Jos. The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu disclosed this while addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday.

5. The Police Service Commission (PSC), on Thursday, promoted some senior officers but rejected a Ex-Acting Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu. The announcement was contained in a statement made available to newsmen by its spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani.

6. A bill seeking to give states the power to declare public holidays passed second reading at the House of Representatives yesterday. Sponsored by Mukhtar Zakari Chawai, it is titled ‘A Bill for an Act to alter the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) to transfer the item dealing with Public Holidays from the Exclusive Legislative list to the Concurrent Legislative List; and for Related Matters (HB. 1163).

7. Chief Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho, has approached the Federal High Court, Abuja, for the release of his aides arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services at his house in the Soka area of Ibadan on July 1. Counsel for the Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Yomi Aliyu (SAN) stated this yesterday.

8. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to direct the military to ensure the immediate and safe release of the kidnapped Kaduna Pastor, Popoola David Kayode, of Calvary Baptist Church at Kurmin Mashi, Kaduna State. CAN General Secretary, Joseph Daramola stated this in a statement.

9. British Government has raised the alarm that the rising conflicts could destabilise Nigeria's democracy in the run-up to the 2023 elections. Chris Beecroft, development director, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) stated this yesterday.

10. Imo State House of Assembly was thrown into a rowdy session yesterday following the suspension of six members for what was termed "unparliamentary conduct." The Speaker, Paul Emeziam, who presided over the plenary, ordered the immediate suspension of the six members for unparliamentary conduct, leading to chaos in the house.
